Mountains to Sea DLR Book Festival: 11 – 14 Sept

Feeling pretty chuffed today as I’ve just received confirmation of a spot on the Don Paterson poetry workshop, as part of the Mountains to Sea DLR Book Festival which takes place in Dun-Laoghaire from 11th – 24th September.

The workshop is limited to 12 places and applicants had to submit a selection of work to qualify, so it’s been a nail-biting couple of weeks. Don Paterson is, of course, a legend in the poetry world; poet, writer and teacher, in the past 20 years he has won most of the major poetry awards in the UK – the Eric Gregory Award, the Forward Prize, the Whitbread Poetry Award, the T.S. Eliot Prize, the Queen’s Gold Medal for Poetry – and is currently poetry editor at Picador, in London.

It’s rare to be able to spend time reading and discussing poetry with someone writing at this level, outside of third level education, and I’m looking forward to the luxury of being immersed in poetry, with like-minded souls, for a couple of hours.

Other poetry highlights of the festival include readings from Vona Groake, Michael Symmons Roberts, Sinead Morrissey, Don Paterson, and the announcement of the winners of the Shine / Strong Poetry Awards.

The full programme of events, including workshops on fiction, feature writing and creative writing for teens, is available at Mountains to Sea DLR Book Festival.
